DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

The Director of Finance is a senior financial leader at Church For The ONE and the organization's chief steward of its resources. This role owns the full financial picture across every entity we operate — the church, the academy, sports, and counseling — and translates that picture into clarity our leaders can actually act on.

  • Church For The ONE exists to reshape the perception of the Church’s relevance by becoming the first place people look for identity, community, and help. We are a church obsessed with the one — focused on reaching those who are doubting, done with religion, and disengaged from faith. Our comfort no longer factors into the equation. 

  • We operate across multiple campuses and multiple ministries — Academy For The ONE, Sports For The ONE, and HP Counseling — each with its own strategy, its own funding realities, and its own people. Holding that together financially is not back-office work. It is frontline ministry. 

POSITION SUMMARY

  • This is not just a bookkeeping role. The Director of Finance builds the financial infrastructure that lets a growing, multi-entity ministry make confident decisions: accurate reporting, disciplined budgeting, honest forecasting, clean internal controls, and scenario modeling for capital projects, debt reduction, and expansion. The Director serves as a true thought partner to the Executive Pastor, Lead Pastor, and Board — and equips ministry leaders to understand the financial implications of what they are building. 

  • Radical financial transparency is a core value here. This role is central to protecting it. The Director of Finance helps us tell the truth about our numbers — to our board, our staff, and our congregation — and helps us frame those numbers in missional terms so people see not just what was given, but what it accomplished.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

Financial Strategy & Executive Partnership  â€‹

  • Serve as the primary finance strategy partner to the Executive Pastor and Lead Pastor,providing financial guidance for strategic planning, staffing decisions, capital investment, and organizational priorities. 

  • Own and communicate the financial narrative of Church For The ONE — analyzing income, expense, balance sheet, and cash flow trends and translating them into insight leadership can act on. 

  • Evaluate the financial impact of strategic initiatives through scenario analysis, risk assessment, and clear recommendations before decisions are made, not after. 

  • Lead financial modeling for capital projects, campus expansion, facility renovation, and new ministry launches. 

  • Develop and steward the church's debt reduction strategy, including mortgage note management, refinancing analysis, and accelerated payoff modeling. 

  • Identify financial risks and opportunities proactively, delivering insight that drives long-term sustainability. 

Accounting & Financial Operations â€‹

  • Provide financial oversight of all operations and transactions across every entity — church, academy, sports, and counseling — including accounting, accounts payable and receivable, contributions processing, cash management, and reconciliation. 

  • Maintain accurate, timely, GAAP-aligned financial records and ensure month-end and year-end close happen on schedule. 

  • Oversee restricted and designated gift accounting, ensuring donor intent is honored and tracked with integrity. 

  • Manage banking, merchant processing, giving platform, and vendor relationships. 

  • Own the church's financial systems and tools, continually improving accuracy, security, and efficiency. 

Budgeting, Forecasting & Reporting

  • Lead the annual budgeting process across all entities — building it collaboratively with ministry leaders rather than handing it to them. 

  • Produce monthly and quarterly financial reporting for the executive team, department directors, and the Board, highlighting performance drivers, variances, risks, and opportunities. 

  • Prepare and present the mid-year and year-end Board financial reports. 

  • Build rolling forecasts and cash flow projections that account for the seasonality of giving and enrollment. 

  • Interpret giving trends and enrollment revenue to inform planning and staffing decisions. 

Multi-Entity & Ministry Oversight

  • Serve as the financial lead for Academy For The ONE, including tuition and enrollment revenue, subsidy analysis, staffing ratios and cost, licensing-related financial requirements, and program profitability. 

  • Oversee the financial operations of Sports For The ONE, including registration revenue, sponsorships, and program cost recovery. 

  • Oversee the financial operations of Counseling For The ONE, including fee structures, scholarship or subsidy funds, and any third-party billing arrangements. 

  • Ensure appropriate entity structure, intercompany allocation, and cost-sharing methodology across all organizations. 

  • Advise on financial matters for organizations that are or may become affiliated with Church For The ONE. 

Compliance, Controls & Risk

  • Design, implement, and enforce internal controls that protect the church's resources and the reputation of everyone who handles them. 

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local requirements applicable to churches, nonprofits, and licensed childcare operations — including 990 or equivalent filings, sales tax exemption, charitable solicitation, and clergy housing allowance. 

  • Manage the annual audit, review, or compilation and serve as primary liaison to the church's external accounting firm. 

  • Oversee insurance coverage, risk management, contract review, and vendor compliance. 

  • Maintain and continually improve written financial policies, procedures, and practice guidelines. 

Payroll, Benefits & Business Administration

  • Oversee payroll processing, timekeeping, and payroll tax compliance across all entities. 

  • Manage employee benefit plans, including health, retirement, and leave administration, and evaluate plan design and cost annually. 

  • Partner with the Executive Pastor on compensation structure, salary banding, and total-cost-of-staffing analysis. 

  • Oversee background check and clearance processes required for staff and volunteers, particularly within childcare and student ministry environments. 

  • Manage purchasing, expense policy, and credit card administration. 

Stewardship & Financial Transparency

  • Support the church's commitment to radical financial transparency by supplying accurate, clear, mission-framed data for quarterly and year-end financial updates to the congregation. 

  • Partner with the Executive Pastor and Communications team on financial update videos, letters, and giving communication. 

  • Provide analysis that supports generosity initiatives, capital campaigns, and year-end giving pushes. 

  • Equip ministry leaders to understand and own their budgets, serving as a financial thought partner rather than a gatekeeper. 

Team Leadership

  • Lead, develop, and care for the finance and business administration team — building capacity, not dependence. 

  • Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and participate in the church's review and development rhythms. 

  • Contribute to a healthy, honest, mission-obsessed staff culture and actively model the culture document. 

RESPONSIBILITES DIRECTLY SUPERVISED 

  • Accounting and bookkeeping staff 

  • Payroll and benefits administration 

  • Contributions and giving processing 

  • Business administration and purchasing support 

  • Finance-related contractors, vendors, and volunteer teams 

Additionally, this role provides functional financial oversight to the business and administrative staff embedded within Academy For The ONE, Sports For The ONE, and HP Counseling

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS 

Required​

​

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field. 

  • Five or more years of progressive experience in accounting, financial management, or strategic finance, including at least five years in a supervisory or managerial capacity. 

  • Demonstrated ownership of a full financial function — budgeting, reporting, forecasting, internal controls, audit, and compliance. 

  • Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and analysis, with strong command of accounting systems and Excel. 

  • Proven ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insight for non-financial leaders. 

  • Experience managing payroll and benefits administration. 

  • Highest level of integrity, discretion, and sound judgment when handling sensitive information and situations. 

  • Ability to pass all required background checks and provide all necessary clearances. 

  • Personal faith in Jesus Christ, active alignment with the mission and vision of Church For The ONE, and willingness to call this church home. 

Preferred

​

  • CPA or MBA. 

  • Nonprofit or church accounting experience, including restricted gifts, designated funds, endowments, and contribution reporting. 

  • Experience supporting a complex, multi-entity, or multi-site organization. 

  • Familiarity with childcare or education finance, including tuition revenue and enrollment-driven modeling. 

  • Experience with church management and giving platforms, and with church-specific accounting software. 

  • Experience with capital projects, construction accounting, or debt financing. 

  • Track record of influencing senior leadership and driving strategic financial decisions. 

CHARACTER QUALIFICATIONS 

The Director of Finance should demonstrate strategic skill, servant leadership, spiritual sensitivity, and exhibit these qualities in everyday life. The Director of Finance acknowledges the responsibility to act in the best interest of Church For The ONE at all times.

This role requires the highest level of discretion and diplomacy. The Director of Finance will regularly handle confidential compensation, giving, and personnel information and is expected to protect it without exception. 

The Director of Finance is expected to conduct their private and public life in a manner that reflects well on the church, its mission, and the people they serve.
