Raise the Standard Series

Throughout the teachings of Jesus a pattern is repeated. Jesus begins his teaching with "You have heard it said" and then he elevates the expectation with the phrase, "but I say to you". The expectation feels almost impossible: don't even be angry, love your enemies, pray for those who persecute you." 

We resist the standards of Jesus because we feel that we continuously fall short. But if we make standards manageable, they cease to be transformational. What doesn't challenge you can't change you.
