Small Wonders Child Development Center, a ministry of Highland Park Church,  is looking for teacher assistants. We are looking for nurturing individuals to be teacher assistants of our two or three year old classrooms. These candidates will work closely with the lead teacher of the classroom to provide high quality care.  To be successful as a teacher assistant, you must have a passion for children and exercise patience with them. You should display a positive attitude and greet parents and staff in a friendly manner. Ultimately, you should constantly monitor and supervise the children in your care to ensure their safety.

Candidate must be: 

  • A high school graduate or equivalent. 

  • Cleared by a Level 2 Background Screening (will be conducted upon job offer). 

  • CPR, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogen certified or obtain certifications upon hire. 

  • DCF certified which required 45 hours of DCF training or be willing to complete it within the first year. 

  • Mentally and physically capable of caring for a group of children in a classroom. 

  • Punctual, and have minimal unexcused absences. 

  • Aware of the unique needs of the children and have appropriate expectations of their abilities. 


​​ Candidate will: 

  • Engage children in activities and play that stimulates their development.  

  • Appropriately supervise children while always keeping them safe. 

  • Assist children with activities of daily life. (e.g., diapering/potty training/restroom use, eating, dressing) 

  • Help facilitate daily activities that are developmentally appropriate for preschoolers. 

  • Create and maintain an environment that is clean, organized, and safe for all children. 

  • Establish a professional level of rapport with each family in order to provide quality care and friendly service. 

  • Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing curriculum and planning daily activities that are developmentally appropriate for young children. 

  • Attend and engage in occasional parent participation events and other events that may be on nights and/or weekends. 

  • Communicate daily activities, through an App, regarding eating, sleeping, and diaper changing. 

  • Communicate with the Lead Teacher regarding all aspects of the children’s care as well as classroom management. 

  • Maintain a professional self-image and project the values of the organization at all times.
